Your ThermiVa Questions: Answered

New Project (46)

ThermiVa is a popular vaginal treatment that helps women regain the confidence and comfort they enjoyed pre-motherhood and/or pre-menopause. ThermiVa is a radio frequency treatment that can drastically improve the function of the vagina without pain or downtime.

Many women find that giving birth permanently stretches their vagina ever so slightly and damages the delicate tissue of their vulva as well. These differences can so slight that they are indiscernible to a partner, but to the woman herself, sometimes the changes lead to a host of negative changes such as difficulty achieving orgasm, less sensation during sex, bladder leakage, and discomfort when wearing tight pants or swimwear.

For women in pre- or post-menopause, vaginal laxity and atrophy can be a disheartening sign of aging that affects not only their physical experience of sex but their self-esteem, too.

ThermiVa helps women in all phases of their lives restore their vaginal tissues and find relief.

What is ThermiVa?

ThermiVa is a treatment that retightens the tissues of the vagina and vulva, improving vaginal tightness, elasticity, dryness, and incontinence. ThermiVa is a non-invasive, painless, drug-free treatment that helps stimulate collagen production in the tissues of the vagina and vulva. This collagen production helps to restore the tissue’s firmness and elasticity, as well as improving lubrication and sensitivity.

How does ThermiVa work?

ThermiVa uses radio frequency to subtly heat areas of the vulva and vagina to stimulate collagen growth. The heat is minimal, so it’s not enough to be uncomfortable at all to the patient. Most ThermiVa patients describe treatments as a slight warming sensation.

The technology that uses radio frequency to stimulate collagen production has long been used on other areas of the body such as the neck, arms, and breasts. ThermiVa has adapted that technology so that it is now safe for delicate tissues of the vagina and vulva.

During a ThermiVa treatment, the slim ThermiVa wand will either be inserted into your vagina (for vaginal rejuvenation) or be passed over your vulva (for vulvar rejuvenation). This motion is repeated several times over the course of the treatment appointment – about 20 to 30 minutes. As the wand comes in contact with the targeted tissue, radio frequency waves enter the tissues and stimulate collagen growth. After each ThermiVa treatment, collagen production increases and the level of collagen in the tissue rises over the course of the four weeks between treatments.

How many ThermiVa treatments have been done?

More than 115,000 ThermiVa treatments have been performed since ThermiVa premiered in 2016.

How long does a Thermiva treatment take?

One reason women love ThermiVa is that treatments only take between 20 and 30 minutes each. There is no downtime after the treatment, and there is no prepping to be done before the appointment, meaning you can walk into the office, have your treatment done, and be out in as little as 30 minutes. Many women have their ThermiVa treatments done on their lunch breaks!

Usually, patients need three ThermiVa treatments to see the full benefit of the collagen-stimulating procedure. The complete course of treatment takes about three months, as treatments are spaced a month apart so that your body has time to produce the desired collagen after each treatment. After the initial course of three treatments, you may need to return once or twice a year to maintain results with a single treatment.

ThermiVa boasts a 95% success rate.

Am I a candidate for ThermiVa?

Most patients who seek ThermiVa treatment have delivered one or more children vaginally, or they are in the perimenopausal or menopausal stages of life and would like to enjoy tighter firmer vaginal tissue. Women with bladder leakage and vaginal dryness also find relief with ThermiVa.

How soon will I see results after my Thermiva treatment?

Many patients report seeing results from their very first ThermiVa treatment, though the full course of treatment is necessary to see all that ThermiVa can do.

Patients report seeing improvement in tightening both internally and externally, as well as decreased incontinence, better lubrication, and increased sensation about two weeks after their first treatment.

After you’ve finished all three initial treatments, you’ll see the full results of ThermiVa three months after your final treatment. So, start to finish, you will see the full result of ThermiVa six months after your very first treatment.

Can I have a Thermiva treatment during my period?

While it is technically possible to get a ThermiVa treatment during your period, we recommend that you wait until your period is over for your own comfort. If you have a ThermiVa treatment scheduled during your period, we will be happy to reschedule it for you.

Can I get Thermiva if I have an STD?

Yes, you can ThermiVa if you have an STD. Please let our office staff know which sexually transmitted disease or infection you have. Certain conditions may require pre-treatment before coming to your appointment.

In the case of herpes, ThermiVa treatments may cause a flare. If you have herpes, a course of anti-viral medication will be needed before your ThermiVa treatment to prevent an outbreak.

Are there any ThermiVa side effects?

Side effects for ThermiVa are rare. You may experience mild cramping or spotting after your treatment, which should resolve within 24 hours.

Is ThermiVa covered by insurance?
